Further to the provisions in the Historic Environment (Wales) Act 2016, when will the Welsh Government publish a statutory register of sites of special historic interest in Wales?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, and Chief Whip | Answered on 19/01/2022

The Historic Environment (Wales) Act 2016 requires the Welsh Ministers to compile and maintain a register of historic parks and gardens in Wales. That register will come into force on 1 February 2022. All the registered sites will appear on Cof Cymru, Cadw’s online database of designated historic assets in Wales.

There are no additional provisions in the Historic Environment (Wales) Act 2016 that require the Welsh Ministers to publish a register of other sites of special historic interest in Wales. However, entries on the list of buildings of special architectural and historic interest and on the scheduled on monuments of national importance, are already available through Cof Cymru.
