Will the Minister advise on the reasons why Eastern Airways flights between Cardiff Airport and Belfast have been suspended?

Answered by Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 14/01/2022

The Cardiff-Belfast route is operated by Eastern Airways on a commercial basis; any decision to suspend or change the service is made at the commercial discretion of the operator.

No money in support of Cardiff Airport has been written off by the Welsh Government in the financial year 2021-22.

As sole shareholders of Cardiff International Airport, £42.6m of debt issued to the airport was written off to maximise the recovery of the remaining Welsh Government loan investment. A four-year plan for the rescue and restructure of the airport was put in place in March 2021.

Further details about the Welsh Government’s investment in Cardiff Airport are set out in an evidence paper to the Senedd’s Public Accounts and Public Administration Committee: https://business.senedd.wales/documents/s119081/Evidence%20paper%20from%20Welsh%20Government%20regarding%20Cardiff%20Airport%20-%20PAPAC6-04-21%20P1.pdf
