Will the Minister provide a breakdown of funding that has been provided to each local authority to help them support individuals who arrived in Wales through the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme?
Responsibility for providing funding to local authorities participating in the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme rests with the Home Office. This scheme has only last week been launched.
The funding will be provided to each local authority as a figure per head for each family or individual that has been matched to housing in the area, through a 3-year integration tariff.
During this time local authorities are expected to support families to find employment with sufficient salary to be able to fund their own accommodation.
- £20,520 to cover the local authority welcome, integration offer and provision of services
- up to £4,500 per child to cover education provision, subject to their age (year one only)
- £850 to cover English language provision, for adults requiring this support (year one only)
Payments may also be made in order to cover additional essential exceptional costs incurred, such as covering the cost of housing for particularly large families.
