Will the Minister make a statement on the availability of access to Molnupiravir for COVID patients via NHS Wales?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 17/12/2021

As I set out in my statement of 8 December, molnupiravir is being made available across the UK  as part of the PANORAMIC trial.  The trial is open to anyone aged 50 or over, or aged between 18 and 49 if they have an underlying health condition, if they test positive for COVID-19 and if they’ve had symptoms for fewer than 5 days.

Arrangements are in place for Health and Care Research Wales to contact people in the eligible groups if they test positive for COVID-19 and to invite them to participate in the trial.  People in Wales are already accessing molnupiravir through this route. Further information can be found at the PANORAMIC study website.

Molnupiravir will also be available for people who are at the highest risk from COVID-19 in accordance with a UK wide clinical access policy which comes into effect from 16 December.  People in the eligible treatment groups will shortly begin receiving letters advising what they should do if they have symptoms and test positive for COVID-19.
