What discussions has the Minister had regarding possible reforms to school term dates and the school day?
In taking forward our Programme for Government commitment to explore reform to the school year and day, I am looking at how reform could best support learner and staff well-being, narrow educational inequalities and align with modern living and work patterns. Over the summer and autumn my officials and I have held preliminary discussions with a broad range of partners and stakeholders including young people, school leaders, Unions and local authorities, both directly and through fora such as the Schools Social Partnership Forum.
Going forward, I will continue to take a collaborative, cross-government and multi-sector approach. This work will also be carried out in collaboration with the Plaid Cymru Senedd Group, as part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.
