Will the Minister make a statement on the take-up rate of electric taxis among those who have taken part in the try-before-you-buy scheme?
The green taxi pilot was launched in Denbighshire in October 2021 and is due to become operational in Cardiff Capital Region and Pembrokeshire from 1 December 2021. As part of the scheme, participants are required to complete a pre and post-trial survey to gauge their views on electric vehicles (EVs) and identify any barriers to transitioning to EVs. The results of these surveys will be fed back to Welsh Government.
Welsh Government has received figures from all local authorities in Wales regarding the current numbers of licensed taxi and private hire vehicle EVs prior to the start of the pilot scheme. Officials are working closely with the Welsh Local Government Association and local authorities to formalise reporting mechanisms to Welsh Government on EV uptake.
