How is the Welsh Government encouraging local groups to own and deliver local plans to try to realise the government's objectives for the Welsh National Forest?

Under the National Forest Programme, the Welsh Government supports and encourages community action for tree planting and management through a number of demonstration schemes, including the Woodland Investment Grant (TWIG) and the Community Woodland Scheme.

Later this year we will release a formal consultation on the longer-term delivery of the National Forest. We will continue to engage with local people, communities, businesses in Wales and our farmers, so we are able to design the Programme in a way which allows everyone to contribute. For example, as part of the consultation we will be asking local communities to identify areas where they believe there are opportunities to create areas of National Forest.
