What research is the Welsh Government undertaking to enable COVID-19 vaccination by alternative means for autistic and other people who have needle phobia?

There is no current preparation in trial, but nasal spray administered vaccines have been discussed and proposed by the scientific community and could become an avenue of future research.

Health boards have and continue to be sensitive to the needs of those suffering with autism and needle phobia, during the roll out of the vaccination programme.

Most Mass Vaccination Centres have quiet areas for people to sit whilst waiting and many also have specialist nurses in attendance, to assist those who may need some extra support. Families or carers are encouraged to contact the health board in advance of their appointment, if additional support or assistance is required.
