How many children with high-functioning autism are being home educated?

Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language | Answered on 19/11/2021

We do not currently have this data with respect to SEN type.   Baseline data on elective home education (EHE) in local authority areas is captured in an annual data exercise carried out by Data Cymru (in a project managed by the Welsh Local Government Association for the Welsh Government).  Whilst this exercise has raised the bar in terms of the minimum expectation of the level of information recorded at local authority level, it has not as yet reached the level of granularity referred to in the question.

However, data is available in relation to special educational needs (SEN) status of the home educated and figures for the EHE cohort on 26 January 2021 are shown in the table below.

This is a constantly evolving piece of work and the intention is to continue to build on the current level of detail to help inform the development of Welsh Government policies and local government practices in relation to home education.
