What discussions the Welsh Government have undertaken to harness the potential of the HyNet project to deliver long-term green jobs and distribute hydrogen to businesses in North Wales?
A significant opportunity exists to develop an integrated cross border Hydrogen, Carbon Capture and storage economy in the North East of Wales and North West England. Welsh Government is working across the border with Liverpool City Region, North Wales Economic Ambition Board, and the Mersey Dee Alliance to maximise low carbon opportunities in the region.
The Minister for Climate Change met with Progressive Energy Ltd and Hynet stakeholders in October to discuss HyNet’s plans and opportunities for the roll-out of hydrogen across the North West England and north Wales. Welsh Government officials meet with HyNet regularly to explore how to maximise the low carbon and economic opportunities for the north Wales region.
I am pleased that HyNet has been selected as one of two UK industrial clusters in the UK Government’s Cluster Sequencing Track 1 process, and welcome the recent announcement that HyNet and the Mersey Dee Alliance have entered into a strategic partnership to seek out opportunities to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen infrastructure into and across north Wales.
