What investment is being made in the water and sewer system in Ogmore to avoid discharge of sewage and foul water into Ogmore rivers?

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) has recently completed a capital investment scheme at Penybont Wastewater Treatment Works to maximise the amount of flows the works can treat which has improved the overall performance of the works.

DCWW has invested £3.2 million at Blackmill. The work increased the storage capacity within the network, which has reduced the number of spills from Combined Storm Overflows (CSO).

DCWW uses the Storm Overflow Assessment Framework (SOAF) to prioritise wastewater asset improvement. 20 CSOs on the River Ogmore will be included under the SOAF and DCWW will investigate and assess their performance during 2022 to determine if any improvement is required.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is working with Bridgend County Borough Council and DCWW to investigate misconnections. Further monitoring and investigations are scheduled to take place within the catchment in 2022-23.
