Will the Minister liaise with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to ascertain whether any support is required with introducing new procedures to speed up the diagnosis and communicating of life-threatening blood results?

My officials hold meetings with each Health Board every two months. On Monday 1 November, my officials met with representatives from the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), and asked if there were any areas where more support from Welsh Government was required.

The Health Board have confirmed they are developing new processes to ensure appropriate communication of abnormal blood results to requesting clinicians so those results can be acted upon in a timely manner.

Additionally the Health Board, in common with other Health Boards in Wales, is looking to ensure all blood results, whether abnormal or not, can be accessed by the clinical team when required. This is now possible due to recent upgrades in the national digital platform. Detailed implementation plans are currently being finalised by the Health Board.

BCUHB did not indicate any additional support was required from Welsh Government, but my officials will continue to hold regular meetings with representatives from all Health Boards to discuss any issues as they arise.
