What is the Welsh Government doing to prioritise and invest in diabetes prevention and care?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 11/10/2021

The Diabetes Delivery Plan for Wales was extended by one year and remains in place until December 2021. It can be found at:

Diabetes delivery plan 2016 to 2020 | GOV.WALES

Delivery plans are gradually being replaced with quality statements as described in A Healthier Wales and the National Clinical Framework.

A Quality Statement for Diabetes is under development and it will set out the approach to improving diabetes services for the rest of this Parliamentary term.

Our approach to preventing diabetes is set out in the Healthy Weight, Health Wales delivery plan, which can be found at:

Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales delivery plan 2021 to 2022 [HTML] | GOV.WALES

Through Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales, we are investing £1m per year up to 2024 in an All Wales Diabetes Prevention Programme which is being run by Public Health Wales in collaboration with health boards. This will commence delivery in early 2022.
