How many onshore inspections were carried out by maritime enforcement to date in 2021, 2020, 2019; where were they carried out; how are on-shore inspections recorded and how many people were spoken to by enforcement officials during these inspections?

Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd | Answered on 07/10/2021

There were 240, 310 and 344 onshore inspections carried out by marine enforcement officers, respectively, during the years 2019, 2020 and in 2021, to date, in multiple areas around the Welsh coast.  The majority of inspections are recorded within the UK’s Marine Control and Surveillance System.

The system does not allow for recording of recreational and intertidal fishery inspections, however, a new mobile working system is currently being developed to capture this data. Marine licence inspections are recorded separately. We do not record the specific number of people spoken to during inspections however marine enforcement officers engage with stakeholders on a daily basis.
