With regard to WQ83184, will the Minister outline what COP Cymru will entail, including details of the programme of events, list of stakeholders invited and a breakdown of costs?

Answered by Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 22/09/2021

COP Cymru is a programme of events taking place before, during and after COP26. This includes the launch of our Wales Net Zero Plan on 28 October, four regional Green Zone events between 1 and 12 November (aligned with selected COP26 theme days and hosted by our Local Authorities) and this year’s 5-day virtual Wales Climate Week beginning 22 November.

COP Cymru reflects the all-Wales approach we need to take to tackle the climate emergency and so it is open to all. We have already engaged with stakeholders via an online survey, conducted a large number of detailed meetings with key stakeholders interested in hosting events as part of the programme, and have been providing updates via newsletters and through partner networks to provide opportunities for others to fully participate in shaping the COP Cymru programme. The detailed programme will be published shortly on a new COP Cymru events platform, but will still include flexibility over the coming weeks to add to the programme and enable opportunities for others to participate by leading on sessions and sharing their experiences and lessons around climate action.

The costs will be finalised shortly in parallel with the imminent appointment of the event management company. The management company will support the digital element that is needed to have a full and inclusive COP Cymru and will lead on promotion of the programme.
