What action is the Welsh Government taking to prevent unlicensed cockling at Lavan Sands?
Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd | Answered on 21/09/2021
To prevent illegal cockling at Lavan Sands, the Welsh Government issues cockle permits to commercial gatherers pursuant to the Cockles and Mussels (Specified Area) (Wales) Order 2011.
Welsh Government Marine Enforcement Officers regularly monitor the cockle beds at Lavan Sands to ensure any commercial gathering is carried out legally and in line with the conditions of the Permits. They also regulate the limited gathering of cockles for personal use to ensure compliance with local byelaws.
