Will the Minister confirm whether carers, who were part of the first phase priority Group 6, will be offered a COVID-19 vaccine booster?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 22/09/2021

In the advice of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), published on 14 September, which has been accepted by the Welsh Government, adult carers are specifically mentioned as one of the groups who are eligible for a booster vaccine.

  • Those living in residential care home for older adults
  • All adults aged 50 years and over
  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • All those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19, and adult carers
  • Adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals

Those individuals who are adult carers who met the criteria and were eligible in cohort six of the first phase of the vaccination programme, will be offered a booster dose, a minimum of six months after receiving their second dose.
