What analysis has the Welsh Government undertaken of the circumstances under which Welsh Ministers will investigate the procurement activities of a contracting authority, as referred to in the Social Partnership Bill?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Partnership | Answered on 31/08/2021

The Welsh Government consulted on the draft Social Partnership and Public Procurement (Wales) Bill prior to the Senedd elections.  A summary of the responses to the consultation was published on 13 July and policy development continues in light of said responses from stakeholders.

The Bill will be introduced to the Senedd in due course and will be subject to full scrutiny at that time.  In addition, the UK Government’s proposed legislation to reform public procurement processes following EU exit will have implications for Welsh Contracting Authorities.  The Minister for Finance and Local Government issued a written statement on 18 August indicating our intention to work with the UK Government to ensure those reforms fully reflect the Welsh Ministers’ policy priorities for public procurement as set out in the Social Partnership and Public Procurement (Wales) Bill.
