How will the Welsh Government's fair deal for social care workers address the developing recruitment crisis in social care?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Services | Answered on 20/08/2021

Last year, HEIW and SCW published the joint Health and Social Care Workforce Strategy. The workforce strategy contains seven high level themes including for example a focus on workforce supply and shape, and attraction and recruitment. Social Care Wales is taking forward a number of actions under this Strategy including the development this year of workforce plans for social work and for the direct care workforce.

We are also taking wider action to improve the terms and conditions of staff working in social care. Implementation of the Real Living Wage in social care is one of our key commitments in the Programme for Government and we will be working jointly with the Social Care Fair Work Forum, which we convened last year, to take this commitment forward.
