What action is the Welsh Government taking to ensure a fair deal for social care workers, and will the Minister confirm the timescales for delivery?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Services | Answered on 20/08/2021

Welsh Government is committed to introducing the Real Living Wage for social care workers in Wales in this Senedd term.

This is a long term commitment and we must work collectively to ensure that it brings about long term, sustainable change.

That is why we have asked the Social Care Fair Work Forum to provide advice on how to best take this commitment forward and how we can ensure that in doing it, we do not destabilise this fragile and complex sector

Last year, Welsh Government convened the Social Care Fair Work Forum, a social partnership group in which trade unions, employers and Government come together to look at how the working conditions of social care workers can be improved in Wales.

The Deputy Minister for Social Services and Deputy Minister for Social Partnership have met with the Forum and asked for its recommendations on implementing the RLW commitment.

The Forum’s advice is expected in the autumn.
