What target has the Welsh Government set for the number of electric charging points in Wales by the end of the sixth Senedd?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 09/08/2021

From April 2021 there were 9,013 plug in vehicles and 851 EV charging public devices in Wales. We understand that the number of public devices must rise significantly, along with other measures, if we are to meet our decarbonisation targets.

We will shortly publish our Action Plan associated with the Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy. The Action Plan will set out that a chargepoint will be available to every seven to eleven vehicles in Wales by 2025, with the aim to provide sufficient numbers to encourage adoption of electric vehicles.  It is expected that a charger would be available for every twenty-six vehicles once full adoption is reached in the 2040’s.  The Action Plan sets out a number of initiatives to encourage the provision of infrastructure working with both the public and private sectors.
