What assessment has the Welsh Government undertaken of the likely impacts on devolved Welsh elections of the proposal in the UK Government's Elections Bill, introduced on 5 July 2021, to require voters to show an approved form of photographic identification at UK parliamentary elections?

The Welsh Government has been analysing the impact of the Bill on Wales, and will lay a Legislative Consent Memorandum as soon as possible, which will set out in detail our views on the Bill. We do not support the introduction of voter identification, and we are content that the Bill does not require this for devolved elections in Wales. However, we are concerned about potential consequences such as voter confusion and complexity for administrators.
