What steps is the Welsh Government taking to ensure COVID-19 testing sites are located near key ports and border sites?

Decisions about the locations of COVID-19 testing sites are made with local authorities, health boards, NHS Test Trace Protect and the Department of Health and Social Care. Multiple factors influence the decisions such as population, deprivation and ease of access.

There are testing sites adjacent to most major routes such as the A40 in the south-west, the M4 in the south-east and the A55 in the north-east and north-west.

As well as the fixed location sites, Mobile Testing Units are deployed around the country in response to demand and outbreaks.

Hauliers arriving in Wales can collect lateral flow self-test kits from collection points across the country. Other arriving travellers are required to take PCR tests at home, or wherever they are staying following their arrival into Wales. Individuals arriving from green list countries and fully vaccinated individuals arriving from amber list countries are required to take a test on or before day 2; unvaccinated individuals arriving from amber list countries are required to take a test on or before day 2 and on day 8.
