Will the Minister provide an update on future engineering works to improve footpaths on the A470 trunk road in Rhayader to make the town safer for pedestrians?

Answered by Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 02/08/2021

We have commissioned a study to assess the need for carriageway and footway surfacing along the A470 in Rhayader. The assessment will also review the suitability of the highway asset provisions e.g covers, drainage and other street furniture. This will ensure that it is fit for purpose and future proofed in terms of reducing ad-hoc maintenance interventions that can cause disruption to traffic flows.

In the meantime, our agent NMWTRA will continue to inspect this section of road and any safety related defects will be repaired as and when they arise.
