What steps is the Welsh Government taking to mitigate the risk of slope and embankment failures around Welsh railways?

Answered by Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 27/07/2021

Rail infrastructure, which includes the maintenance and improvement of slopes and embankments alongside the railway, outside of the Core Valley Lines is not devolved and remains the responsibility of UK Government and Network Rail.   We will continue to press the UK Government for full devolution of rail infrastructure in Wales.

Transport for Wales has a programme of asset management for the Core Valley lines that includes assessing and maintaining structures, embankments and drainage to help mitigate the risk of landslips.
