What is the Welsh Government doing to promote inclusive workplaces for women experiencing the menopause?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Partnership | Answered on 16/07/2021

We are very clear that employers have a duty to prevent workplace discrimination and that they should make adjustments to ensure women can work through the menopause.

Taking a more proactive approach towards the menopause has mutual benefits for workers and employers and through our social partnership approach, we are supporting and encouraging constructive relationships between employers and trade unions, which is key to raising awareness of issues such as the menopause and the importance of recognising and addressing the workplace issues that can worsen women’s symptoms.

More broadly, we welcome the menopause in the workplace toolkit that has been developed by the Wales TUC – it’s a helpful resource for workers, trade unionists and indeed employers.   Our Business Wales website provides a range of general business advice, information and signposting as well as specialist strands of advice such as guidance to help employers support women who have difficulties at work due to menopause symptoms.  We will continue to work with our social partners to raise awareness of this issue and to diffuse good practice.
