Will the Welsh Government confirm that all social care workers will be receiving the COVID-19 bonus payment?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Services | Answered on 12/07/2021

Through the NHS and Social Care Financial Recognition scheme, we will make bonus payments of £735 to around 100,000 social care workers. This is to reward them for their hard work and commitment during the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that social care workers have provided essential care and support to some of our most vulnerable citizens.

This has been a complex scheme to establish. We have worked with our social care partners to agree eligibility for the scheme and local authorities are managing the delivery on our behalf. Local authorities are working with several hundred different employers to ensure payments are in people’s pay packets as quickly as possible. Payments started last month, with more being made this month and in August. We hope this will account for the vast majority of payments to be made.
