Will the Welsh Government provide clarity to the nightclub and live entertainment sector of when they will be able to reopen without restrictions, given that these venues are not included under alert level 1, beyond pilot events?

The Welsh Government continues to keep the regulations and guidance under regular review and our focus is on the public health data, not dates.  We intend to open remaining areas such as nightclubs when the public health conditions allow. Small “grassroots” entertainment, such as music and comedy venues, have been able to resume their activities since 21 June.

We recognise the difficulties still being faced by many businesses in this sector both financially and emotionally.  A total of £2.5bn of COVID related support funding has been distributed to businesses since the start of the pandemic.

I have announced today that businesses in Wales that continue to be affected by Covid restrictions will receive up to £25,000 of additional support from the Welsh Government’s ERF. The emergency package of support will cover the operating costs for July and August 2021 of businesses required to remain closed and who remain severely impacted as a result of the continuation of the restrictions.

Additionally, the sector will continue to benefit from our 100% rates relief scheme for the entire financial year.
