Yes. The Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Act 2021 will come into force automatically on 29 June. This follows the UK Government’s decision to proceed with the Bill to Royal Assent at the end of the last UK parliamentary session, notwithstanding the fact its provisions were within the devolved competence of the Senedd and had not secured the Senedd’s consent.
This is an unfortunate illustration of the current UK Government’s attitude towards the importance of the Sewel Convention.
