How many people were employed by Natural Resources Wales with responsibility for flood modelling and mitigation prior to the floods in February 2020, and how many are employed now?

Answered by Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 26/05/2021

The number of staff employed by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) with responsibility for flood risk management are as follows:

·         Prior to February 2020 floods: 304.2 full time equivalent

·         Currently: 345 full time equivalent

Many of NRW’s teams, as well as the delivery of its functions and services, are integrated, however in February 2020, NRW had in place 350 posts with flood risk management responsibilities. As of May 2021, this figure has risen to 393 posts. The figures in the bullets above reflect the full-time equivalent numbers of staff working solely on flood risk management activities.

NRW is best placed to provide detailed information on staffing and operational deployment. Further details can be requested by writing directly to its Chair or Chief Executive.
