Will the Minister provide a breakdown of the number of applications that have been submitted for an empty homes loan since 2016, and how many of these applications have been approved or rejected?

Answered by Minister for Housing and Local Government | Answered on 31/03/2021

Loans are available to owner-occupiers and landlords to cover the cost of works which bring an empty property back into use, or to bring a property up to the standard of safe, warm and/or secure.  Local authorities administer the loans.  The breakdown of applications is as follows:

Number of applications received*                         (as at 24.03.2021)

2,225

Number of applications approved                        (as at 24.03.2021)

1,234

Number of applications rejected                         (as at 24.03.2021)

665

*the difference between the number of applications received and the cumulative total of the number of approved and rejected applications represent applications that are currently being assessed or were withdrawn/not pursued by applicants
