Will the Minister provide details of all costs associated with the creation and management of the Welsh Government’s websites, broken down by website, throughout the course of this Senedd term?

Answered by Minister for Finance and Trefnydd | Answered on 29/03/2021

Over this Senedd term the Welsh Government has been reducing the number of websites it has and where sites are required ensuring a consistency of approach. This is to provide clear information to the Welsh public about services and guidance from the Welsh Government. In this term there has been a 50% reduction in the number of Welsh Government websites. Where sites have been decommissioned, content has primarily been migrated to the corporate site, GOV.WALES.

The Welsh Government has resources in-house to create and manage websites, in particular GOV.WALES. This resource includes design, development, service, content and security. As these resources are employee costs, it is not possible to quantify the specific costs specifically for the creation and management of websites.

During this Senedd term Visit Wales has developed the Wales Gateway (VisitWales.com & Wales.com) with the following development costs to the point of launch:

  • Financial year 2017/18 - £47,460
  • Financial year 2018/19 - £658,660

There have been developments to the Business Wales site during this Senedd term, and I will write to you with a further update once total costs for this have been calculated.
