Will the Minister confirm when a decision about the permanent option for the mother and baby unit on the Tonna hospital site will be made?
Swansea Bay University Health Board have advised the unit is expected to open on 19 April 2021.
Capital work commenced on the Tonna site in autumn 2020 and is due to be completed by the end of March The health board has been recruiting staff and drafting guidance and protocols ready to accept the first patients from mid-April.
I am unable to give a date for a final decision about the permanent option. Officials, working with the health board, are focused on establishing the site at Tonna and will evaluate access to and occupation of that unit. Once evaluation has been undertaken, consideration about future options can begin.
