What discussions has the Welsh Government had with the UK Government to seek assurances that future post-Brexit trade deals do not increase the import of goods whose production has contributed to the destruction of forests?

The Welsh Government is committed to being globally responsible and addressing global deforestation is an important element of that.

I can assure members that maintaining our high environmental standards is one of our top priorities when making representations to the UK Government about future trade deals. Our position is that all trade deals should include provisions for cooperation on sustainable resource use and climate protection, including reductions in illegal logging and deforestation, and encouraging the use of sustainably sourced forestry products to preserve global resources.
