In light of the First Minister's comments in Plenary on 9 March 2021, will the First Minister confirm the details and provide a breakdown of support provided by the Welsh Government to Liberty Steel and/or their associated companies?

The Welsh Government has provided the following support to Liberty Steel:

  • Liberty Steel Newport - £160,678.50 (£132,000 of this was from our Economic Resilience Fund to support the business through the coronavirus pandemic).
  • Liberty Steel Tredegar - £49,000 from our Economic Resilience Fund to support the business through the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Simec Uskmouth Power - £75,000.
  • A £40,000 infrastructure grant was made to Mir Steel in October 2012. (Mir Steel was subsequently bought by Liberty Steel).
