Will the Welsh Government undertake a review of council tax in Wales with a view to introducing a fairer and more progressive system?

Answered by Minister for Finance and Trefnydd | Answered on 01/03/2021

I published a summary of findings on reforming local government finance in Wales on 24 February 2021. It brings together research commissioned by the Welsh Government to understand the options for making local taxes more progressive, while maintaining vital revenue for local services.  The paper considers options for making significant improvements to the existing systems, including detailed analysis of options for reforming council tax, as well as looking at alternative approaches. The findings provide a robust basis to inform proposals over the next Senedd term.
