What discussions has the Welsh Government had with Wales’s 22 local authorities regarding driving up standards in dog-breeding establishments across the whole of Wales?

The local authority dog breeding enforcement project, a three-year Welsh Government-funded project covering all local authorities in Wales, started in June.

Work is underway to tackle barriers to enforcement; enhanced training; better guidance and improved use of resources within local authorities. I am pleased to report that good progress is being made in taking this work forward with Monmouthshire Council leading the project.

The first training session for inspectors took place in August and was developed and delivered by the project lead – a senior animal health officer from Monmouthshire Council, a senior animal health inspector, from the City of London Trading Standards and a veterinary professional.
