What discussions has the Minister had with the UK Government about export health certification?

Answered by Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs | Answered on 07/12/2020

I have had many discussions with the UK Government in relation to the need for Export Health Certificates for GB exports to the EU (and to Northern Ireland).

With Export Health Certification being a complex issue, the topics discussed were wide ranging and included funding, trader readiness, veterinary capacity, additional health guarantees and border checks. Much work has been undertaken between all administrations since we initiated preparations after the referendum to deal with and mitigate the risks associated with EU Transition.

Clarity has been provided to industry, businesses and citizens to the extent possible, however, a deal with the EU is not yet completed. My officials are working with UK Government ministers to seek as many concessions as possible from the EU on this and other matters, including in relation to the Northern Ireland Protocol. Further discussions will take place and decisions will be announced in due course.
