Will the Minister introduce more severe fines for fly tipping in Wales?

Answered by Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs | Answered on 08/12/2020

I am aware some Local Authorities have expressed frustration at the apparent leniency of recent convictions. In particular, they have raised concerns the sentences have not adequately reflected the cost of investigating and remediating the incident. Whilst environmental policies are a devolved matter, sentencing and the operation of the court system are reserved matters. I have, therefore, written to Rebecca Pow MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) to raise this issue.
