Will a COVID-19 vaccine programme be administered by the UK Government, or solely by the Welsh Government?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 30/10/2020

The UK Government, through its Covid Vaccine Taskforce, is leading the work on procuring a number of potential Covid-19 vaccines for the UK and the Welsh Government is supporting this work and monitoring progress on its development.

Governance arrangements have been established at a UK and an all-Wales level with a range of partner organisations and stakeholders, to work through all the deployment and logistical issues.

The Wales Covid-19 Vaccine Delivery Programme Board has been established. Health boards and NHS trusts have been asked to develop a model for the operational delivery of a future vaccination campaign in Wales. Each local plan is being aligned with a broader, common set of once-for-Wales plans, including distribution, to ensure there are appropriate facilities and equipment to receive, store, prepare and administer vaccines in a safe and controlled manner.
