Following the reply to WAQ79012 in which the Minister referred to the publication of the report about existing services, will specific standards now be put in place for families experiencing pregnancy and baby loss?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 26/10/2020

We have established a national bereavement steering group and recruited a bereavement lead officer to support the development of a national bereavement framework for Wales. The group is chaired by Dr Idris Baker, the national clinical lead for end of life care and includes representation from a range of bereavement organisations and individuals including those representing pregnancy and baby loss.

As part of this work generic bereavement care standards will be produced and will be applicable to all organisations delivering bereavement support across Wales.

We will expect health boards to work with the Maternity and Neonatal Network to ensure their service plans are sufficiently robust to meet the requirements of the new bereavement standards when published.
