What consideration has the Welsh Government given to the randomised controlled trial at the Reina Sofía University Hospital in Córdoba, Spain, which found that COVID-19 patients treated with 25-hydroxyvitamin D had significantly better outcomes than other COVID-19 patients?

The Welsh Government has issued guidance about the use of vitamin D treatment and dietary supplements in response to the pandemic:

On 29 June 2020 the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence issued a rapid evidence summary on the use of vitamin D as a treatment for COVID-19, which stated: “There is no evidence to support taking vitamin D supplements to specifically prevent or treat COVID-19.” The statement can be found at:

The study referred to involved a small cohort of patients and the comparator treatment involved a non-recommended therapy. The outcome from this study therefore does not affect the treatment pathway for COVID-19 in Wales.
