Further to WQ80856, will the Minister specify how much was allocated to each health board out of the £3.5m Mental Health Service Improvement Fund and how much was spent on adult and children’s services respectively, by health board?
Officials continue to work closely with partners through the Mental Health Incident Group and through regular meetings with health boards to understand any changes in needs for services during the pandemic and to plan for changing mental health needs post pandemic. A specific mental health monitoring tool was put in place during March – July which was used to monitor the capacity and capability of services whilst routine performance reporting was stood down.
We have also recently written to health boards to request proposals for the remaining £3.5m service improvement funding for 2020/21 and provisionally for the £7m from 2021/22 onwards. As well as responding to the demands of Covid -19, the funding will support the agreed priority areas in our new three year Together for Mental Health Delivery Plan, published in January 2020. As part of this exercise we have also requested a written update from health boards in respect to how the initial £3.5m released was utilised to respond to the pressures associated with the current situation in mental health. We expect to receive this information by 7 September.
