What assessment has the Minister made of the potential impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent budgetary pressures on the future of the active travel fund?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Economy and Transport | Answered on 23/04/2020

The Welsh Government remains committed to increasing the provision of high quality active travel infrastructure across Wales, in recognition of the significant contribution active travel modes make to people’s physical and mental health, their prosperity and the environment.

As the First Minister said in Plenary on 1 April, work is ongoing across all portfolios to maximise the amount of funding that can be repurposed within existing budgets to support the coronavirus crisis.

he immediate focus has been on steps to release revenue funding and a parallel exercise to explore capital budgets will commence shortly.

As we repurpose funding to respond to Covid 19, we will do our utmost to safeguard budgets that will help communities and businesses to return to normality, once we relax restrictions, and which will help us to tackle climate change.
