Will the Assembly Commission provide a breakdown per year of the money that has been spent on Welsh Language courses/training over the last three years?

Answered by Assembly Commission | Answered on 14/08/2019

In line with the ambitions set out in the Official Languages Scheme, which was agreed by the Assembly following committee scrutiny, the Commission has focused on delivering the priorities agreed.  This includes the delivery of Welsh learning across the organisation via the Language Skills Team specifically to develop a programme of bespoke Welsh language skills training taking into account the different requirements and learning styles of all our staff members; and continue to provide bespoke and flexible Welsh learning provision for Assembly Members and their staff.

The Language Skills team currently provides regular training for approximately 160 learners, including Assembly Members, Support Staff and Assembly Commission staff.

Alongside the in-house support provided by the Language Skills team, Members, their staff and Assembly Commission staff can also access training through external providers to assist them in developing their use of the Welsh language in the workplace, for example writing effective briefings, letter writing and residential Welsh courses.

Expenditure on Welsh language training/courses provided by external providers for the last three financial years is set out below.
