Has the Welsh Government provided any guidance or sought advice on the prescribed use of sun-cream for public service employees who need to spend their working hours in the sun over summer months?
Cancer Research UK’s Sun Smart campaign provides advice about skin cancer and sun safety at: https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/causes-of-cancer/sun-uv-and-cancer. Public Health Wales also provides guidance at: http://www.wales.nhs.uk/sitesplus/888/page/44138
Specific guidance, including the prescription of sun-cream use, for public service employees working outdoors is the responsibility of their respective employers under health and safety regulations. The enforcing authority is the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The HSE recognises skin cancer is a particular problem for outdoor workers and provides guidance on sun exposure for employers and workers at: http://www.hse.gov.uk/skin/employ/sunprotect.htm
I have recently written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer to support the campaign to remove VAT on high sun protection factor products.
