Further to WAQ77338, will the Minister give an update on progress in agreeing a policy on the internal use of the Welsh language within the Welsh Government administration?

The Welsh Government Board discussed this issue at their meeting in May, and during the meeting they considered a paper updating information contained in a report drafted by a Task and Finish Group in 2017. This latest paper for the Board considered the nature of the Government's ambition for the Welsh language for the future, the learning offer available today for Welsh Government staff to develop or improve their Welsh language skills, and discussed examples of good practice across the public sector in Wales. During the same meeting the Welsh Language Commissioner was invited to present to the Board on his vision for the role. The Commissioner will return in September to meet with the Government's Senior Leaders Group to discuss the objectives of the proposed policy on the internal use of the Welsh language. Cymraeg 2050 commitments will be central to this policy, and the policy will ensure that the Welsh Government, as a leading employer in the public sector in Wales, responds fully to the challenge of reaching a million speakers by 2050.
