What assessment has the Welsh Government made of Welsh-medium secondary school provision in a) local authority areas and b) consortium regions?

Answered by Minister for Education | Answered on 01/07/2019

Through their Welsh in Education Strategic Plans local authorities are required to set out the strategic direction for the planning, delivery and growth in Welsh medium education within its area. Local authorities are required to report on progress annually and Welsh Government can assess through these annual reports if the progress made is sufficient. Welsh-medium-secondary provision is included within the Welsh in Education Strategic plans and the responsibility for Welsh medium provision and the planning and delivery of provision rests with local authorities. Local authorities are expected to work with neighbouring local authorities and regional consortia where necessary to ensure that Welsh medium provision is sufficient.
