What progress has the Welsh Government made to secure an office for the Traffic Commissioner for Wales, including administrative staff, with staff management on the same site?

Answered by Minister for Economy and Transport | Answered on 05/06/2019

The Traffic Commissioner for Wales took possession of his south Wales office, in Cardiff, during May 2019. Officials are currently working with Transport for Wales (TfW) to allocate space for the Commissioner in the TfW building in Pontypridd once completed in 2021.

We will be funding three new, full-time and bilingual support staff who will be recruited and employed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). The DVSA was unable to identify appropriate candidates in south Wales, and is now focusing on north Wales where we are working with the Traffic Commissioner to secure premises in Caernarfon to accommodate these support staff. We are in the final stages of negotiating a lease in premises owned by Gwynedd Council.
