Will the Minister state how much the Welsh Government has spent on barristers in 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19?

Answered by Minister for Finance and Trefnydd | Answered on 13/03/2019

The Welsh Government does not hold a central record of all payments made to barristers. Payments are made either directly to barristers, or via their chambers, via an external firm of solicitors or via the Government Legal Department.   It is not possible therefore to identify the total spent on barristers during the stated period but as a minimum, the following amounts have been spent:

2016/17 £480,684;

2017/18 £534,809;

2018/19 £428,800
